This website was created as part of a Spring 2013 course: Islamophobia and Constructing Otherness at University of California, Berkeley taught by Dr.Hatem Bazian.
While finding inspiration for our website topic, we realized that we all came from different cultures. We wanted to leverage our varied backgrounds in order to provide insight on Cultural Responses to Islam in different countries around the world.

Tiffany Le
Tiffany is a 3rd year student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Business Administration.
She has lived in the Bay Area all her life, growing up in San Jose. This has exposed Tiffany to the diverse and liberal culture of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Tiffany is a Disney fanatic who enjoys watching Disney Channel and going to Disneyland. She loves eating foods of all kinds, especially those from different cultures. Tiffany usually spends time outdoors, going to the beach, and swimming. In the future, Tiffany hopes to start a non-profit Marine habitat/education facility where she can finally fulfill her lifelong dream of swimming with dolphins.
Vania Liu
Vania is a 2nd year student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Business Administration and Political Economy.
She has lived in many places, including Indiana, Chicago, SoCal, the Bay Area, and most recently Madison, Alabama.
Vania enjoys traveling and experimental cooking, and in her free time loves to go restaurant hopping with her friends. She has been passionate about working with senior citizens and young children through volunteering and tutoring through various organizations. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in international business and visit every country in the world.
Catherine Ngai
Catherine is a 3rd year student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Business Administration.
She was born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California. Arcadia is her hometown and she misses the delicious Asian food and slow, suburban nature. However, she enjoys the diverse culture in the Bay Area and looks forward to spending the next few years living in San Francisco.
Catherine enjoys various outdoor activities, including hiking, sailing, and tanning at the beach. In addition, she is a sports fanatic who has been playing basketball her whole life. She is an avid Lakers fan and loves to watch games with her family and friends. She has a passion for cooking and baking, and hopes to open up her own restaurant one day. Catherine will be working in investment banking post-graduation, but hopes to move into impact investments after her stint as an analyst is over.

Pia Mishra
Pia Mishra is currently a 2nd year student at UC Berkeley studying Business Administration.
Pia was born on the East Coast but raised in Silicon Valley. As a result, she has grown fond of trying out the many cuisines the Bay Area has to offer. Pia chose to attend Berkeley as she is a California girl at heart and enjoys nothing more than a sunny day. Pia also enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, and learning new languages. Her interest and fascination with Islamic culture led her to take Arabic last semester, which she would love to continue learning in the future. In time, she hopes to live abroad and travel the world, but eventually wishes to settle back down in California.
Jeff Wang
Jeff is a 3rd year student at UC Berkeley majoring in Economics and Statistics. He has lived in the Bay Area for his entire life, growing up in Palo Alto, so he is accustomed to very diverse communities.
He has visited many countries, such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, Canada, etc. and has encountered many different types of people, which has prompted an interest in Ethnic Studies, Psychology, and Sociology. In his free time, Jeff enjoys travelling, sports, outdoor activities, keeping up with news, and walking around with friends. In the future, Jeff hopes to attend graduate school while pursuing a career related to stock trading.
